Obituary: LONGAZEL - Thomas William, 87 of Ebensburg and formerly of Nanty Glo, passed away June 4, 2010 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born February 19, 1923 in Wehrum, son of the late MIchael and Anna (Prebola) Longazel. Preceded in death by son-in-law Daniel A. Vahovius. Survived by wife, the former Helen A.Yaronczyk to whom he was married 63 years and these children: Ret. Lt. Col. Thomas M. (Diane) Longazel, Annapolis, Maryland; Mark (Donna) Longazel, Cleveland, Ohio; Elaine (David) Ross of California, Diane Vahovius, Pittsburgh; and Jerome (Tina) Longazel, of New Germany; Also survived by Grandchildren: Tom, Mike, Ernie, Brian, Scott, Tana, Jerry and Jennifer Longazel and CFO, Cpt. USAF Josh & A1C USAF Kendal Valovius. Brother of John Longazel, Boca Raton, Florida; Frank Longazel, Cleveland, Ohio, Theresa Clines, Washington D.C. Tom was a member of Holy Name Church where he served as an usher and a Eucharistic Minister. Member of Ebensburg Council #522 Knights of Columbus and the Prince Gallitzin Assembly of Fourth Degree Knights. Member of Ebensburg Post 4963 V.F.W. A World War II and Korean War Navy Veteran. Tom also served as a former Cub Scout Master. He was retired as field representative/agent for the Merchants & Businessmens Insurance Group. Tom loved to write and invent. He was the author of the "The Magic Reed of the Woodpecker" and held six patents including the "Slush Buster". At Tom’s request there will be no viewing. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at Holy Name Church, The Rev. Msgr. Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant. Followed by a funeral luncheon at the church hall. Entombment at Holy Name Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s memory may be made to the Holy Name Church or Holy Name School Angel Fund. Military graveside rites by the Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team.
