Obituary: KASECKY – Joseph J. “Knobby,” 91, Nanty Glo, died June 5, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Feb. 3, 1919, in Nanty Glo, son of the late Andrew and Julia (Kuhar) Kasecky. Preceded in death by first wife, Yvonne; son, Thomas; daughter-in-law, Sharon; and brothers, Andrew and John. Survived by wife, the former Marion Fye, Nanty Glo; children, Jack (Judy), Ebensburg; Robert, Nanty Glo; Georgiann (Gary) Luther, Nanty Glo; Mary Ann (Bill) Dunchuck, Nanty Glo; and Shawn (Maria), Ebensburg; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Brother of Elizabeth Barbera, New York; Mary (Joseph) Mackanick, Nanty Glo; Francis (Barbara), Nanty Glo; Susan (Thomas) Barbera, New York; Theresa Roe, Nanty Glo; Thomas (Dolores), Nanty Glo; Catherine (James) Leleck, Cresson; and Shirley Kasecky, Nanty Glo. Member of St. Mary’s Church, Nanty Glo. A retired coal miner and from PennDOT. Served as president of Nanty Glo Borough Council, president of Blacklick Valley School Board and president of Nanty Glo Water Authority. Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, where he landed on Utah Beach on D-Day with the invasion forces. Member of VFW Post 3489 and American Legion Post 619, both of Nanty Glo; Disabled Veterans; and served as post commander of the 26th District, National Aid DECAMP of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Knobby was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, ETO with two battle stars, Good Conduct and Victory medals and decorated by the French Council of Caen, Normandy. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, where liturgical wake will be held. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church. Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery. Veterans service will be conducted by the local veterans organizations.
