Obituary: FRIDAY - Karen, 50, of Nanty Glo, and formerly of Vine Street Towers, Johnstown, passed away peacefully July 11, 2010 at the home of her parents in Nanty Glo. Born September 20, 1959 in Johnstown, daughter of Edward T. and Isabelle (Kerezsi) Friday. Preceded in death by sister Cheryl Ryan. Survived by parents of Nanty Glo; sister Carole (David) Vogel, Springfield, Virginia; brother, Edward (Yolanda) Friday, Las Cruces, New Mexico; brother-in-law John Ryan, Woodbridge, Virginia. Karen was a special aunt to her nieces and nephew: Julia, Jenna & Zackary Vogel, and Alicia & Monica Ramirez. A 1977 graduate of Blacklick Valley High School, she attended Cambria-Rowe Business College and was a graduate of the Conemaugh Hospital Certified Lab Technician School in Johnstown. Employed by Memorial Medical Center, she had also worked at Huntingdon Hospital. Karen enjoyed dancing, movies and shopping. She was a devout Catholic who attended Mass at St. John Gualbert Cathedral in Johnstown and loved to pray the Rosary. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where a vigil prayer service will be held Wednesday evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Nanty Glo, the Rev. Martin A. Cingle, celebrant. Committal at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Karen’s memory may be made to her home parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nanty Glo or to the Windber Hospice.
