Obituary: WOOMER - Jim G. “Big Jim”, “Pop”, 79, New Germany, passed away on October 29, 2016. Jim was born July 16, 1937 in Patton, the son of George and Mary Woomer. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Mary Louise Donato and Ed Woomer. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie Elizabeth Woomer and their four sons: Martin (Mary Fox), John (Donna Holtz), Jerry and Paul Woomer. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Martin (Holly Hanlon), Christina (Timothy) Finn, Brandie, Eric, Becky, Brian; and four great grandchildren: Devin, Sami, Bradford, and Lauren. Jim was a 1955 graduate of Patton-Chest High School and member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in New Germany. Following high school, he went on to create his own business, Jim Woomer and Sons Construction, now carried on by his sons. Big Jim could be found driving around in the latest model GM vehicle, be it a truck or a car. He had a love for dogs and old country western movies. He could go on for hours on stories growing up in Patton with his parents and childhood friends. At his request there will be no viewing. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, New Germany, the Rev. Leon Hont, O.S.B., celebrant. Interment at St. Bartholomew Cemetery in Wilmore. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Cambria County Humane Society. Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg.
