Obituary: HOWARD – James Vaughn, 65, of Ebensburg, passed away suddenly on October 29, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center. Born December 19, 1950 in Mount Pleasant, Pa., son of the late William and Gaile (White) Howard. Survived by wife, the former Denise Bloom, to whom he was married 40 years, and daughter Erin Alissa, and her partner Alexander Masser, of Virginia and Ebensburg. Brother of Sue (Robert) Doak, Blairsville; Jane (Michael) Gary, Fairhope; Kelly (Dean) Miller, Greensburg; Kim (Dale) Martz, Donegal; Bill (Joyce) Howard, and Chart Howard, both of Acme. Also survived by 12 nieces and nephews, 3 great nieces, and 1 great nephew, father-in-law Richard Bloom, Ebensburg; sister-in-law Deb Coffman, Virginia; and brother-in-law Rick (Janice) Bloom of Ebensburg. Jim was a self-employed buyer, seller, and trainer of horses throughout the area. He was a member of the Appalachian Wagon Train Association; Tri-County Horse & Mule Assoc.; Laurel Highlands Horse Pulling Assoc., Cambria County Saddle Club, Pennsylvania Draft Horse Association, and was involved with the Cambria County Fair Horse Pulling Contest for many years. Jim was a wonderful husband, father, brother, and uncle. He spent his entire life buying, selling, training and pulling draft horses. He won the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Horse Pull numerous times. His horse pull wins across the United States are too many to list. He loved watching Denise and Erin compete in various horse shows throughout the years. Jim loved the sports of barrel racing and horse pulling. In the horse community his knowledge, influence, and kindness has resulted in many close friendships. Jim spent many mornings eating breakfast at Kosta’s where he was treated like family. There are not enough words to describe what he meant to so many as a great mentor and friend. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m., until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday at the Ebensburg United Church of Christ, the Rev. Chuck Davis, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jim’s memory to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg.
