Obituary: LONGAZEL - Helen A., 91, of Monroeville and formerly of Ebensburg, passed away peacefully November 13, 2016 at Canterbury Place Inpatient Hospice of Pittsburgh. Born May 20, 1925 in Nanty Glo, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Compardo) Yaronczyk. Preceded in death by husband Thomas William Longazel; son-in-law Dan A. Vahovius; brothers Joseph, John, Stanley; sisters, Sophie, Mary, and infant sister Mary. Survived by children: Ret. Lt. Col. Thomas M. (Diane) Longazel, Annapolis, Md.; Mark (Donna) Longazel, Cleveland, Ohio; Jerome (Tina) Longazel and Elaine (David) Ross all of New Germany, PA.; Diane Vahovius of Monroeville; and brother Andrew of Ohio. Also survived by grandchildren: Tom, Mike, Ernie, Brian, Scott, Tana, Jerry, Jennifer, USAF Major Josh (Leigh) & USAF SSGT Kendal Vahovius; and ten great-grandchildren. Helen was a member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Valley Girls Club. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Friends may gather at Holy Name Church for a Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m., the Rev. Msgr. David Lockard, celebrant. Entombment at Holy Name Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the Holy Name School Angel Fund. Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg.
