Obituary: SMITH - Donna LaRue (Widdowson), 87, of Colver, was embraced by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 26, 2016. Born in Mineral Ridge, OH on July 3rd, 1929 to Anna J. (Zimmerman) and Donald E. Widdowson. LaRue moved to Colver with her parents as an infant and lived her life there. Preceded in death by parents, brother Ronald B.Widdowson and husband Joseph Smith. Survived by daughter Barbara Jean married to O. Alan Kensinger (her “favorite son-in-law”), Commodore, Pa.; grandsons Joseph M. Kensinger, Indiana, PA; and Matthew A. Kensinger, Raleigh, NC; brother Robert E. Widdowson and wife Cookie, of Blasdell, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dear to her also was her sister-in-law, Mary Lou (McNally) Widdowson, Blasdell, NY. She enjoyed the company and time spent with grandson Joseph's fiance, Chelsea Cymbor with whom she celebrated many holiday gatherings and events over the past decade. At the time of her high school graduation LaRue had already become an accomplished guitarist. As a member of “The Hawaiian Swingerettes” she had recorded selections on vinyl and performed on WDAD radio. LaRue later went on to employment at the Colver Store, and served as secretary of the Cambria Township School District and Cambria Township Board of Road Supervisors. She had done volunteer work for the Colver Hospital and the Historical Society in Ebensburg. As a wife and mother LaRue enjoyed sewing, cake decorating and had league bowled for a time but most of all enjoyed time with her family. For over 50 years LaRue had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. A lifelong member of Colver Presbyterian Church, LaRue emulated her faith in life and shared with her family Christian values and knowledge. Please join us in celebrating LaRue's life at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, with receiving of friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Monday. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home, Rev. Laura Blank, officiating. Interment at Lloyd Cemetery.
