Obituary: LANDIS – William Joseph “B.J.” Sr., 76, of Ebensburg, passed away peacefully December 14, 2016 at home after a long battle with cancer. Born June 9, 1940 in Somerset, son of the late William Henry and Beatrice Mae (Harmon) Landis. Survived by wife, the former Madelyn Carruthers-Landis, to whom he was married 12 years, but had been together for 28 years; and children: Christine R. (Russell) Mullen and William J. (Tammy) Landis, Jr.; grandchildren: Rebecca (Jimmy) Nihart, Danielle Mullen, Jason (Sara) Mullen, and Paige Landis; and great-grandchildren: Shane, Madison & Tanner Nihart, and Haley & Jeremy Mullen. Also survived by brothers, Eugene E. (Rita) Landis and Barry F. (Yvonne) Landis, and numerous nieces and nephews. B.J. was retired as a supervisor for outside construction at Verizon Communications in Altoona, with 30 years of service. He had attended Ebensburg United Church of Christ; and was a member of the National Rifle Association, National Wild Turkey Federation, Moose, Pioneers Club at Verizon, and the Gold Wing Riders Association. B.J. was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan; and loved motorcycling with his wife throughout the United States and Alaska. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, B.J.’s friend, Pastor Luke Breeze, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in B.J.’s memory may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundations, 383 Main Avenue, 5th FL., Norwalk, CT., 06851, checks payable “In Memory of William J. Landis, Sr.”
