Obituary: MARINES – Theodore “Ted”, 71, of Nanty Glo, passed away Jan. 16, 2017 at home, surrounded by his loving and devoted family after a 5 year battle with lung cancer. Born May 26, 1945 in Johnstown, to Allene (Hunter) Marines. Preceded in death by mother, Allene; step father, Emil; and twin brother, Timothy. Survived by devoted wife, Delores, ending a union of 51 years; son, Ted (Debora) Marines; and daughter, Cindy Marines. Grandchildren, Samantha, Lindsay, Teddy, Nathan and Riley; and great granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie. Also survived by brothers, Emil and Bernard. US Army veteran. Former coal miner with various area coal companies. Ted loved his grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments. He never failed to brag. Spending time with Elizabeth Marie was a joy and emotional outlet while dealing with cancer. Ted loved fishing, boating, camping at Raystown Dam, also playing cards. He loved watching all sports as well as his grandchildren participating in them and finally socializing daily with his many friends. He will be sadly missed by many. Friends will be received from 5- 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nanty Glo, the Rev. Leonard Voytek, celebrant. Entombment, Holy Name Mausoleum. Military Rite by Nanty Glo, Twin Rocks, and Vintondale area veterans ritual team. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ted’s memory may be made to Conemaugh Regional Hospice.
