LEISHMAN - Sara Janette (Crider), 87, of Carlisle, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, in her daughter s home in Carlisle. Born Sept. 5, 1920, in Slaughter, Miss., the daughter of the late Jacob and Ada (Brouster) Crider and the widow of Hugh Kenyon Leishman. Sara graduated from Maryville College in 1946 with a degree in elementary education. She was a former curator for the Cambria County Historical Society, Ebensburg. She was active in the Ebensburg community and the Ebensburg Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Carlisle, where she was a member of The Faith Circle. She enjoyed visiting the Carlisle Senior Center, where she participated in Tai Chi classes. Sara enjoyed genealogy research and traveling. Surviving are three daughters, Jane Black, and her husband, Jon, Carlisle; Martha Leishman, and Peter, Washington, D.C.; and Ruth Piechalak, and Ed, East Aurora, N.Y.; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, A.T. Crider and William Crider. Memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2008, in First Presbyterian Church, on the square of Carlisle, with the Rev. Buddy Wheat officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, is handling the arrangements. The family is thankful for the skillful care and compassionate comfort provided by the staff of Celtic Hospice and Med-Staffers.
