EVANS - Sherman D. "Doc" , " Red" , 99, Cambria Twp., passed away August 30, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center, Born Nov. 9, 1908 in Cambria Twp., son of the late David E. and Permilla (Davis) Evans. Preceded in death by wife, Betty A. (Thomas) Evans; brothers, Evan, Robert, Stanton, and sisters, Martha Thompson and Ethel Evans. Last surviving member of his immediate family. Survived by children, Janet (William) McHenry, Newport, PA; Thomas (Susan) Evans, Cambria Twp.; and Jack (Darlene Stefanick) Evans, of MD. Also survived by 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In his earlier years, he worked on the family farm and later for the coal mines in Colver. He was proud of his Welsh heritage and was an active supporter of the Salem Homecoming Association, which holds an annual service at its historic chapel in Cambria Twp. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where funeral service will be held at 11a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Dr. Frank Brosius, officiating. Interment, Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salem Homecoming Association.
