Obituary of Dorothy E. Wissinger

WISSINGER - Mrs. Dorothy E. (Shaner), 90, of Mineral Point, died at 2:24 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2007, in the Waynesboro Hospital. She had been in failing health since December. Born April 8, 1916, in Nanty Glo, she was the daughter of the late Wesley A. and Anna J. (Hill) Shaner. She lived her early life in the Nanty Glo area. Mrs. Wissinger graduated from Nanty Glo High School with the class of 1934. She later became an L.P.N. in Johnstown. She and her husband, the late Irvin Merritt Wissinger, were married on May 5, 1946, in Titusville, Pa. They lived most of their life in the Mineral Point area, however, they moved to Greencastle for 10 years, while Mr. Wissinger worked at Mack Truck, Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Wissinger died on May 9, 1982. Mrs. Wissinger worked as an L.P.N. in the Johnstown area. While living in Greencastle, she was a lunch aide at South Antrim Elementary School. She was a member of Nanty Glo Church of God. Mrs. Wissinger enjoyed cooking, working on word search puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia A. Strite of Mont Alto; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Rhea Shaner of Nanty Glo; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert M. Wissinger; one daughter-in-law, Stephanie Ann Wissinger; one sister, Grace Alexander; and one infant brother, Wilford Shaner. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Nanty Glo, Pa., where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. William A. Shank and Rev. Rick Shaffer officiating. Interment at Pike Brethren Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Nanty Glo Church of God, 1060 Cardiff Road, Nanty Glo, Pa. 15943.
