NAGY - Thomas Charles “Tom”, 56, of Ebensburg, passed away, surrounded by loved ones in the Windber Hospice Center, August 5, 2019 after battling brain cancer. Tom was born February 18, 1963 in Johnstown, PA. Tom is survived by his wife of 29 years Wendy Jo (Beadling) Nagy, and children, Kyrah Elaine Nagy (Fiancé Andrew Allender, Altoona) of Hollidaysburg and Brynne Kathleen Nagy of Ebensburg. Siblings include a sister, Susan (Noel) Hanrahan of Southport, NC; brothers, Robert (Marie) Nagy of Scottdale, PA; Richard (Connie) Nagy of Portage, PA, and, Donald Nagy of Portage, PA as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Thomas is a 1981 graduate of Portage Area High School and a 1985 graduate of Indiana University of PA with a B.S. in Music Education. An exceptional musician from a very young age, Tom primarily played piano, organ, trumpet, and flute. Tom was an inspiring music educator who started his career in the Titusville Area School District. Tom was hired by Central Cambria in 1988 where he taught elementary general music and high school concert band. Tom was marching band director in the district for 8 years, assistant music director and accompanist for multiple high school musical productions, as well as Cambria Elementary chorus and band director. Additionally, Tom was an instrumentalist and music director in many local music theatre productions as well as accompanist for students in the IUP School of Music for several years. Tom mentored over 50 student teachers throughout his career and was an inspiration to countless colleagues. Tom served as a church organist, bell choir director, and Sunday School teacher for the Ebensburg United Methodist Church. Tom’s creativity extended into folk art painting and gardening. Tom’s passion for music, teaching, service, and love will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him. Friends will be received Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Ebensburg United Methodist Church, Rev. John R. Virgin, officiating, followed by a fellowship gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ebensburg United Methodist Church in Tom’s memory.
