WOODS - Violet Mae, 87, Alverda, died Feb. 21, 2008, at the home of her daughter in Ebensburg. Born Oct. 30, 1920, in Alverda, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Edith Octa (Stiffler) Berringer. She was the last surviving member of her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband, Nazerine Wenturine, who died in 1944; second husband, John D. Woods, who died in 1996; sister, Mildred Risbon; brothers, Earl and Richard Berringer; and grandson, Christopher Kirsch. She is survived by children, Josephine M. (Wenturine) Kirsch, wife of Donald Kirsch, Ebensburg; Edith M. (Wenturine), wife of William Binder, Salem, Ohio; Allen A. Wenturine, married to the former Kathleen C. Briar, Ebensburg; Gary J. Wenturine, married to the former Diane Michaels, Cherry Tree; John D. Woods Jr., married to the former Janice Trinkley, Barr Township; and Mark Woods, Alverda; 23 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She retired from the Penns Manor School District, where she was a well-loved cook in the cafeteria. She loved to cook for "company" and one of her favorite pastimes was quilting. She especially enjoyed Tuesday shopping trips with her senior citizen friends. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Alverda Christian Church. Interment, Uniontown Cemetery.
