MARTIN – Dorothy E., 81, of Nanty Glo, entered into her joyful journey with the Lord on Feb. 10, 2020 at home, after a courageous three year battle with cancer. Born April 29, 1938 in Vintondale, daughter of the late Jose Alves and Eva (Yanche) Martin. Preceded in death by sister, Mary Noel; brother, John Martin; and nephew, Michael Martin. Survived by siblings, Carmen Anderson; Joseph Martin; Robert Martin; Camille (Wayne) Helsel; and Anne (Michael) Solarz. Also survived by sister in law, Joyce Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy, also known as Dotty or Dolly, was a life-long caregiver, spending most of her life providing in-home care for elderly people. Her kindness, generosity and sense of humor were an inspiration to her friends and family. Throughout her life, Dolly enjoyed walking with friends, gardening, crocheting, word puzzles and playing scrabble. She was a devout Roman Catholic and frequently prayed the Rosary at home. Dorothy was a Eucharistic minister and lector at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Nanty Glo, for many years and enjoyed spiritual fellowship with her many friends and parishioners there. Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary’s Church, the Rev. Leonard Voytek, celebrant. Committal, St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation in Dolly’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
