EMPFIELD - Mary Catherine "Kay & Goober" (Rodgers), 93 of Ebensburg, passed away April 4, 2020 at UPMC -Altoona.  Born January 23, 1927 in Sankertown, son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Eunice (Bouch) Rodgers.  Preceded in death by husband Jack C. Empfield and grandson Chad Tronzo.   Survived by children:  Penny Lee (Richard) Tronzo, Ebensburg ; and  Tim Jack (Melody) Empfield, Angleton, Texas;  Also grandchildren:  Christian (Shannon) Tronzo, Cory (Ashley) Tronzo, all of Ebensburg, Casie (Robert) Johnstone, Arlington, VA., Sarah (Cody) Trevino, Benjamin (Kaylie) Empfield, and Kaylee Empfield, all of Texas;  great grandchildren:  Conner, Kylie, &  Reagan Tronzo;  Charlee & Taylor Tronzo, Emma Belle Empfield, Ezekial De Lo Santose, Jackson Chad Johnstone, and Avery & Finley Trevino.  Also survived by brother Benjamin F. (Edna Kay) Rodgers, Jacksonville, FLA.  Kay was a member of the Ebensburg United Church of Christ (Congregational) where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Hospitality Committee and the Pilgrim Club.  Also a member of the Johnstown/Altoona Chapter of Tres Dias, and the Ebensburg Senior Citizens.  She enjoyed card playing and spending time with her family, she was known for her hugs and greetings, as well as her baking, cooking and shopping skills.  Over the years she had been employed at the Ebensburg 5 & 10, Aroney's Market, Ebensburg Floral & Gift, the Central Cambria High School Cafeteria and the former JoAnn Apparel Co.  Such a beautiful life needs celebrated and we invite all who were touched by her life to join us for a time of gathering at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 23, 2020 at the Ebensburg United Church of Christ, followed by Kay's Celebration of Life Service at 4:00 p.m.,Rev. Ryan Lucas, officiating.  Refreshments and fellowship will follow in the church's Education Buidling  immediately following the service.  Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Johnstown.  In Lieu of flowers, donations in Kay's memory may be made to the Ebensburg United Church of Christ, Ebensburg.  Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg.
