KACHIK – Joseph, 92, of Twin Rocks, died June 22, 2020. Born June 26, 1927 in Nanty Glo, son of the late John and Anna (Sekora) Kachik. Preceded in death by brothers, John and Francis; and sister, Genevieve Ann (Leonard) Holliday. Survived by wife, the former Margaret Columbus; daughter, Kelly (Steve Karal) Kachik; brother, Andrew (Patricia) Kachik; and numerous nieces and nephews. He loved his wife and daughter immensely. Joe was a maintenance supervisor at Blacklick High School and Elementary for many years until he retired. He built a lot of friendships within the community throughout the years. Anyone that knew Joe knew he was someone that always had a smile and liked to make others smile and laugh. He was proud of his prowess as a baseball and basketball player. He enjoyed Penn State Football and Basketball and never missed watching the Pirates on TV with his wife. “Joey, as his daughter affectionately called him, brought home pets to her in the forms of dogs and cats through the earlier years. Kelven “Biggy Boy” cat is really going to miss “Pappy.” Joe enjoyed deer hunting in rifle season, but he really loved the challenge that came with archery season. He was an artist when it came to fly tying and fly fishing. Many people around the area were given a “fly” that Joe had crafted. He had numerous fishing buddies throughout the years, Bobby Smolensky, the late George Tatarko and Lew Lazer, to name a few, and the last several years, the late Dr. Mike Tatarko became his latest fishing buddy and were together when Joe caught his last fish, a 26 inch rainbow trout that Mike made him get mounted. We are sure you will have a nice fishing spot waiting for him, Mike. At Joe’s request, there will be no viewing. Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nanty Glo, the Rev. Leonard Voytek, celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made to the Twin Rocks Sportsmans Club or to the Humane Society of your choice. Arrangements in care of Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo.
