Obituary of Irene Margaret Becker

BECKER – Irene Margaret (Smith), 84, of Summerhill, passed away October 21, 2020 at home surrounded by her family.  Born March 12, 1936 in Summerhill, daughter of the late Benno and Clara (Frank) Smith.  Preceded in death by brother William Smith, and granddaughters: Emily Becker, and Erin Riner.  Survived by husband Ralph Charles Becker to whom she was married 64 years;  and children:  Ralph “Ted”(Faye) Becker, Summerhill; Richard Becker, Aderdeen, MD; Raymond (Sharon) Becker, Ebensburg; Mary Jo (David) Riner, Dysart; Colleen (Paul) Driscoll, Bridgeport, W.V.; Rosanne (Richard) Keiper, Portage; Matthew Becker, West Newton; John (Denise) Becker, Imler; and Daniel Becker, Inman, SC.  Also 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  Sister of Marie Woomer, Portage; Camilla Miller, St. Benedict; Naomi Stohon, Ebensburg; Dave Smith, Florida, Kate Schmidt, Portland, OR; Patricia Feather,  Florida; Ron Smith, Florida; and Fred Smith, Summerhill.  Irene was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Germany and Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, Ebensburg.  She was a graduate of the former Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her B.S. in Nursing.  She enjoyed baking and was known for “grandma’s cookies.” Friends will be received from 2-8:00 p.m. Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a vigil prayer service will be held.  Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday at Holy Name Church, the Rev. Brian Warchola and Msgr. Michael Becker, con-celebrants.  Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Germany.
