LIEB – Michael J. “Lumpy”, 66, of Ebensburg, passed away January 4, 2021 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.  Born August 1, 1954 in Spangler, son of Louis J. “Herky” and Yvonne (Donahue) Lieb.  Preceded in death by father, brothers-in-law:  Jack McMullen, Don McNulty, and Dan O’Leary; and nephews: Sam Conner and Tony Farabaugh.  Survived by mother, Yvonne Lieb, Rhode Island;  wife, Carol A. (Farabaugh) Lieb, to whom he was married 37 years and children:  Justin M. (Shannon) Lieb, Murrysville;  Michele (Chris) Gregory, Plum Borough; Sarah (Douglas) Nelen, Gallitzin;  grandchildren:  Wyatt Michael Gregory, Parker, Alexander & Myla Nelen.   Also survived by brother and sisters:  Mary Jo (Rob Braisted) Roberts-Braisted, and Christopher D. Lieb, Rhode Island and Polly M. (Col. Christopher, Ret) Conner, Virginia and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law:  Mary McMullen, Ed (Joan) and Herb (Lois) Farabaugh, Thelma McNulty, Cathy O’Leary, and Dan (Cathy) Farabaugh; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, especially best friends: Tom Chaffin and Howard “Howdy” Bosworth.  Mike retired in 2017 from Cambria County, where he had served as Courthouse Maintenance Supervisor and driver for the Cambria County Solid Waste & Recycle Authority.  He had also been a dispatcher at the former Mainline 911.  A life member of the Dauntless Fire Company, Ebensburg, having joined in 1973;  he had served many roles there, including Truck Captain, from 1983-86 and again in 1995, Engine Captain in 1987, Assistant Chief from 2000 -2001, Fire Chief from 2002-2003; and had been Active Fire Police Captain from 2015 to the present.  He was a member of the Cambria County, Central District, Western and State Fireman’s Associations and the Somerset/Cambria Fire Police Association.  Former board member of the Ebensburg EMS from 2004-2012.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and fire department comrades.  Mike was a collector of Fire Equipment, and could tell you the make, model and year of a fire truck by sight and by sound.  He also enjoyed spending time at his camp, Crystal Springs Hunting & Fishing Club in Clinton County.  Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a vigil prayer service will be held.  Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church, the Rev. Brian Warchola, celebrant.  Interment at Holy Name Cemetery.  Social distancing and masks required for all services.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike’s memory may be made to the Dauntless Fire Company or to the Ebensburg Area EMS.
