Obituary of Thomas Golias

GOLIAS - Thomas Andrew, 79, of Nanty Glo, died peacefully on May 16, 2025 at Maple Winds Care Center in Portage.
Thomas was born in Johnstown on May 7, 1945 and grew up in Nanty Glo. He attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and Nanty Glo High School. He was a lifelong, faithful member of St. Mary’s Parish.
After high school, Thomas joined the Army and was stationed in Vietnam where, as a sergeant, he distinguished himself for his bravery and was awarded a Purple Heart.
After returning from Vietnam, Tom worked at St. Mary’s School while caring for his father until his father passed away in September, 1998. After his father passed away, Thomas worked as a custodian at Johnstown Hospital for 22 years.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Rose Golias and his two brothers, Martin Golias and David Golias. Tom is survived by his sister, Sister Deborah Golias, CSA; cousin, Theresa Golias; sister in law, Rosemary Golias; faithful friends, Earl and Sheila Woods; his landscaper, Richard Brown; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday May 28 at St. Mary's Cemetery, Cardiff Road, Nanty Glo. Military Rite by Blacklick Valley Ritual Team. Arrangements are in care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Tom's memory to Maple Winds Care Center, 4112 Spring Hill Rd., Portage PA 15946. Condolences may be left for the family at www.askew-houser.com
