Michael J. "Mike" Buckus Obituary

BUCKUS - Michael Joseph, 92, of Ebensburg, passed away July 8, 2025 at Maple Heights Health & Rehabilitation Center, Ebensburg. Born on March 20, 1933 in Jackson Twp., son of the late Michael and Margaret (Peterchalk) Buckus.  He was preceded in death by his sisters:  infant Mary Frances and Louise Rodgers and brothers-in-law Jim Foster and Robert Rodgers.  Survived by sister Rosemary Foster; and nieces and nephews:  Robert (Pam) Rodgers; Cathleen (Mark) Tubo; Lou Ann (Gary) Hoffman; Margaret DiGenaro; and Thaddeus Foster; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews: Maria, Luca, Claire, Sophie, Rebeccalyn, Grace, Faith, Sarah and Luke.  He was a member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, Ebensburg.  A 1951 graduate of the Ebensburg-Cambria Schools, he had also attended Cambria-Rowe Business College.  Retired, he had been a pay master for Park Drop Forge in Ohio.  Mike was a proud US Navy Korean War veteran, having served as a radio operator in Norfolk, Virginia.  He attained the rank of RD3 and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.  In his retirement, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Friends may gather from 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 14th at the Holy Name Church Narthex, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Fr. Brian Warchola, celebrant.  Interment at Holy Name Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Holy Name School Angel Fund.  the family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of AsceraCare Hospice and The Villages of Maple Heights for their loving care and attention.  Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg.  Condolences to the family may be left at www.askew-houser.com
