Nancy Marie Seliga Obituary

SELIGA – Nancy Marie (Long) Seliga, 85, of New Germany, peacefully passed away on October 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and devoted sister. Friends will be received at Askew-Houser Funeral Home in Ebensburg on Tuesday, October 14th from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in New Germany on Wednesday, October 15th at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, New Germany.

Nancy is survived by her children: Terri (Jon) Patterson, Christine (Greg) Pawlikowski, Daniel (Cathy), Jo Ann (Kevin) Schofield, Thomas, and James (April); her cherished sister Elaine (Long) Eppolito; and her dear cousin Dennis (Peg) Frank. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Virginia Farkas, Linda Seliga, and Vickie Long, and brother-in-law Regis Seliga.

Nancy’s love continues through her 18 grandchildren — Shane, Jake, and Brian Patterson; Alex (Kathleen), Nick, and Sam Pawlikowski; Joe, Mike, Ellie, and Matthew Seliga; Allison (Tim) Scanlan, Leah (Austin) Tomberlin, and Hannah Schofield; Lauren (Douglas) Leebern and Garrett Seliga; Sydney, Troy, and Hayden Seliga — and six great-grandchildren: Ava and Connor Scanlan; Joseph Kai and Wyatt Tomberlin; Rhys Pawlikowski; and Josephine Leebern. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph, her parents Louis and Grace (Frank) Long, her brothers James and Dave Long, and her great-granddaughter Finnley Tomberlin.

Born on July 5, 1940, in Ebensburg, Nancy was a 1958 graduate of Central Cambria High School and went on to earn a certificate in Medical Technology from St. Francis College. She dedicated many years to her work in hospital laboratories at Mercy, Memorial, and Lee Hospitals, later serving as a laboratory supervisor at Center Town Labs. After retiring, she served as a hospice volunteer, offering comfort and compassion to others in their time of need.

Nancy and Joe were married in 1962 and built a life centered around faith, family, and service. Together, they raised six children and created a home filled with love, laughter, and music. A gifted pianist from childhood, Nancy served faithfully as organist and choir director at Immaculate Conception Church for over 50 years. Her devotion to the Church was a reflection of her deep faith and her desire to glorify God in all she did.

Family was Nancy’s greatest joy. She never missed an opportunity to cheer from the sidelines, applaud at concerts, or proudly support her children and grandchildren in their many pursuits. Her “Camp Nana” summers were legendary among the grandchildren — full of fun and the kind of love that only a Nana can give.

Nancy also enjoyed connecting with friends and her community — whether organizing class reunions for her Central Cambria classmates, walking at the Industrial Park, or attending Silver Sneakers and yoga groups. She and Joe shared a love of travel, exploring destinations near and far — from Alaska to the Florida Keys — often accompanied by lifelong friends.

At home, Nancy and Joe opened their doors for every holiday, with laughter and togetherness filling every room. Their annual “Beach Week” tradition was a cherished time for generations of family to gather and celebrate life’s blessings. In their later years, they spent winters in St. Augustine, FL, where Nancy was an active member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church, attending daily Mass and joyfully serving in the choir and as a substitute organist.

Nancy lived a life rooted in faith, guided by love, and expressed through service. Her gentle spirit, steadfast devotion, and generous heart touched everyone she met. She will be remembered for her love for family, grace and kindness, her music, and unwavering faith in God.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Nancy’s caregivers, especially Maxine Lashley, and to the compassionate staff of Richland Woods Assisted Living Center, where she spent her final months.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bishop Carroll Catholic High School (Ray Boley Atrium Project) or the Holy Name School Angel Fund, continuing Nancy’s legacy of faith and education.
