DYSON – James Henry, 83, of Blacklick Township, passed away suddenly at his home on October 24, 2025. Born August 20, 1942, in Nanty Glo, he was the son of the late Henry and Viola Maie (Mundorf) Dyson. Jim was preceded in death by his sisters Betty Mishler, Mary Bortnik, and Deborah Boring; his brothers Gilbert Dyson and Thomas Dyson; and his grandson, Josh Marcisis. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth Ann (Findley) Dyson, with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage; his children, Michelli (Rick) Drish, James (Rachel) Dyson, and Ed (Heather) Dyson; grandchildren Brian Dyson, Garrett Drish, Kyler Hartman, Martita Huerta, and Samantha Marcisis; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Dorothy Collins and Caroline Digiamo. Jim retired from Barnes and Tucker Coal Company, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for 22 years, and later from Waste Management after 20 years of dedicated service. He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America and served his community on the local election board.
A man of many talents, Jim was also a skilled mason, known for his craftsmanship in brick and block work. He attended Laurel Mountain Bible Church and found joy in his faith, family, and friends. Jim had a deep love for God, was an avid sportsman, he enjoyed the great outdoors and deer hunting. He found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life and in spending time with those he loved most.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him—especially his beloved wife, Ruth Ann.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, at 10:00 a.m. at Laurel Mountain Bible Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo. Condolences may be shared online at www.askew-houser.com.
