Joyce Elaine Boring (Simmons), 88, of Mundy’s Corner, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025. Born on August 15, 1937, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, she lived a life marked by deep faith, unwavering love for her family, and a heart devoted to service. Joyce was the beloved wife of Thomas Sheridan Boring. Their marriage of 69 years, celebrated most recently on October 27, stood as a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together they built a family rooted in faith and compassion. She was the cherished mother of Roxanne Dunsmore and her husband Douglas; Thomas Scott Boring and his wife Susan; and Shannon Curry and her husband Christopher. Joyce’s legacy continues through her seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, EJ Simmons and Agatha (Gore) Simmons; her in-laws, Kenneth and Marie Boring; her sisters Janet Nanna and Doris Williams; and her brother Edward Simmons. In her role as a school district secretary, Joyce touched the lives of everyone she encountered and was deeply loved, extending compassion, love, and steadfast guidance to students as a quiet yet powerful personal ministry. Afterward, at the age of 60, Joyce answered a profound calling by returning to college to become an ordained minister for the Church of the Nazarene. Her dedication led her to serve as pastor at the Nanty Glo Church of the Nazarene for six years. In addition to her pastoral work, she ministered for many years through music evangelism. She was a Bible study leader and Sunday School teacher, a teen/youth leader, and church secretary —all roles through which she inspired many with her wisdom and warmth. Joyce’s commitment to ministry extended beyond the pulpit. Alongside Tom, she volunteered for ROAM (RV Volunteers On A Mission) and participated in Nazarene Work & Witness projects for several years. These efforts reflected her lifelong devotion to helping others and spreading God’s love wherever she went. Those who knew Joyce remember her as a kind and compassionate woman whose generous spirit touched countless lives. Her deep love for God guided every aspect of her life. She treated others with grace and empathy, always ready with an encouraging word or a listening ear. Her radiant presence brought comfort to those around her—a reflection of the light she carried within. As a published writer of inspirational stories and poetry, she extended that same light and encouragement through her writing. May Joyce Elaine Boring’s memory bring peace to all who were blessed to know her. A celebration of life will be scheduled during the spring/summer of 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries. info@ncm.org or 17001 Prairie Star Parkway Lenexa, KS 66220. Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo. Condolences to the family may be left at www.askew-houser.com
