WIRFEL – Jean Lynn, 76, of New Germany passed away April 23, 2026 at UPMC Shadyside. Born February 15, 1950 in Colver, the daughter of the late Thomas and Bertha (Thomas) Brown.  Preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Allison and William; her sister, Carole Bimeal; and her beloved husband, Michael. Survived by her children: Lori (Joseph) Jiacinto, Iowa; Jeffrey (Stephanie), Spring Grove, Pa; and Kristy (Joey) Popma, New Germany; her 12 grandchildren: Joe, Dominic, Lexi, Maria, Xavier, Hailey, Ollie, Cam, Ethan, Annemarie, Julien, and Tricie; her sister Joan (Fred) Lampel, New Germany; and numerous nieces and nephews. A 1968 graduate of Central Cambria HS and a 1971 graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Jean had taught at Admiral Perry Vo-Tech, and retired as a registered nurse from Ebensburg Center. In 1972 she married Michael C. Wirfel, and they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2022. A devoted wife and mother, Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, quilting, flower gardening, and traveling. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, New Germany, and member of the Calico Quilters of New Germany. A Gathering of Friends & Family will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., 300 N. Julian Street, Ebensburg, where a memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, Fr. Brian Warchola, and nephew Rev. Robert Brown officiating. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, New Germany.
