HUGHES – Lois Mary (Dickson), 95, of Ebensburg, passed away June 1, 2026. Born October 28, 1930 in Westmoreland County, PA, daughter of the late Walter E. and Gaynell B. Dickson. Preceded in death by brothers, Norman and Blair Dickson; sister, Janice Gourley; and husband, Isaac “Ike” Hughes, to whom she was married for 63 years. Surviving children are Sara Jane (Tim) Reilly; Chester (Marie) Hughes; Ronald (Fonda)Hughes; Donna (Pat) Kirby; Mary Ellen (Keith) Bard; and Margaret (Gary Byers) Hughes. Grandchildren, Tim (Lindsay) and Bill (Lindsay) Hauze; Amanda (Zach) Long; Andy (Claire) Hughes; Allison (Joe) Simmers; David (Brittany) Kirby and Jon (Lexi) Kirby; Laura (Zach) Walker; Emma (Sebastyn) Kissell; Ben (Victoria) Bard and Rebecca Bard. Great Grandchildren, Kaden, Zander and Bryce Hauze; Grayson, Wakefield and Oliver Hauze; Oscar Long; Anastasia, Bennett, Declan and George Simmers; Frances, Sean and Brennan Kirby; Evelyn and Cooper Kirby; Joseph, Arzella, Roland, and Walter Walker; Isaac, Everett and Silas Kissell; Maren and Russell Bard. Also surviving brother, Alvin (Barbara) Dickson; and many nieces and nephews, in laws and friends. Member of South Ebensburg United Church of Christ for 73 years, serving in many offices. Past President of the Pennsylvania Society of Farm Women, served on local, regional and state committees for PA Cooperative Extension, 4-H Leader (20 yrs.), Cambria County Fair Building Superintendent (20 yrs.), Ebensburg and Salix Stitchers making crib quilts for charity. Lois enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, daily newspaper crossword and jumble puzzles. A special thank you to the care team at Windber Hospice for their compassionate care of Lois. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg and from 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 am. on Saturday at First United Church of Christ, Ebensburg, Andy Jones, officiating. Interment to follow at Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lois’s memory to South Ebensburg United Church of Christ or a charity of your choice.
