Andrew Francis Kaza Obituary
KAZA – Andrew Francis, 84, of Ebensburg, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born April 1, 1942, in Ebensburg, he was the son of Andrew P. Kaza and Florence (Italiano) Kaza-Pitz. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Andy is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Karen (Rentz) Kaza; his son, Ryan (Fiance' Kim), of Ebensburg; and his sister, Theresa Marie Kaza (Daniel), of Columbus, Ohio.
A proud veteran, Andy served two years in the United States Army before beginning a long and dedicated career first as a construction supervisor for PennDOT, and partnering in a survey business and later as owner/operator of Kaza Fire Equipment, serving the region until his retirement in 2024.
Andy will be most remembered for his lifelong commitment to public service and the safety of his community. A devoted life member of the Dauntless Fire Company since 1960, he dedicated decades to protecting the residents of Ebensburg. Over the years, he served in numerous leadership roles, including Ladder and Engine Chief, 2nd and 1st Assistant Chief, and ultimately Fire Chief from 1980 to 1986. Even after his tenure as chief, Andy continued to give back as a Fire Company Trustee from 1987 to 2006, helping guide and strengthen the organization for future generations.
His influence extended far beyond his local department. Andy was an active member of several regional and state firefighting organizations, including the Volunteer Firemen’s Association of Cambria County and Vicinity, where he served as president in 1976; the Central District Firemen’s Association, serving as president in 1986; as well as the Western Pennsylvania Firemen’s Association and the Firefighters Association of Pennsylvania. He also shared his knowledge and passion for fire service as a longtime instructor with the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy, mentoring and training countless firefighters throughout the state.
Through his leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication, Andy left a lasting legacy of service that will continue to benefit the community he cared so deeply about.
In his spare time, Andy cherished time with his family and enjoyed relaxing at Raystown Lake aboard his beloved boat, “FireEscape.”
