VORHAUER - John Edward Sr. “Ed”, 103, of Cambria Township, died June 26, 2017 at Windber Hospice. Born March 12, 1914 in Johnstown, son of the late Henry and Ellen (Brendle) Vorhauer. Preceded in death by wife, Faye (Rhodes); daughter, Martha; brother, George; and sisters, Jeannette and Eleanor. Survived by children, Edward Jr. (Sue McGhee); Jeannette; Ellen Grace; Allan (Regina Turin); Walden; Cheryl; James; and Esther (friend, Doug Eady). Grandchildren, Heather (Cliff Bernstein); Gretchen (Ross) Beveridge; Brian (Sheena Bailey); and Jennie (fiance, Dylan McCreary). Great grandchildren, Andrew and Adam Beveridge; Quinten, Leighla and Justen Vorhauer. Sisters, Kathryn Deetscreek and Betts Shoemaker. Sisters in law, Garnet Croyle and Lurane (Lee) Hunter; and brother in law, Forrest Rhodes. Also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and faithful companion, Shiloh. US Army veteran of WW II. Retired from Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown Car Shop. Lifelong farmer. Graduate of Ebensburg-Cambria High School, Class of 1932. Lifelong member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jackson Township. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, and from 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Mundys Corner, Pastor Kevin McNamara, officiating. Interment, Ogden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Memorial Fund, Windber Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
