Obituary of Catherine Monfordini

MONFORDINI- Catherine (Kohut), 100, of Nanty Glo, went to be with the Lord March 13, 2007, at Garvey Manor, Hollidaysburg. Born Nov. 11, 1906, in Latrobe, daughter of the late John and Mary (Gondek) Kohut. Preceded in death by husband, Joseph; sisters, Anna Cocho, Mary Morton and Virginia Mari; and brothers, John and Michael Kohut. Survived by sister, Helen Markovich; sister-in- law, Josephine Kohut; brother-in-law, Sam Monfordini; nieces, Betty Jane Cocho, Ruth Marie Tedesco, Jackie (Jerry) Schmidt, Michele (Joe) Tauriello, Mary Frances Setz, Melissa Miller, Michaela Markovich, Joy McShane and Sharon Sniadowski; nephews, Francis John Markovich, Michael Kohut, Dave (Georgia) Stanton, Bob Stanton and Albert (Delores) Stanton; great-niece and great-nephew, Kristin Borlie and Jason Setz; great-great niece and great-great nephew, Alivia and Zander; godchild, Jeanne Schmidt; numerous other nieces and nephews; lifelong friend, Anna Bornyak, and her daughter, Martha Jean DeSabatino; and close friends, Elaine Close, and her son, Billy. Catherine was the oldest living member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nanty Glo, where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society and was a daily attendant at Mass and devoted to praying the rosary daily until her illness. During World War II, she was a welder, where she made mufflers for B-52 bombers. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Rev. David S. Peles, celebrant. Committal, St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Catherine's memory may be made to St. Mary's School.
