Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
SILBAUGH - Walter G., Sr., 81, of Mundys Corner, went to be with his Lord, May 11, 2015, having fought a courageous battle with black lung. Born May 16, 1933 in Twin Rocks, son of the late Ronald and Mildred (Enos) Silbaugh. Preceded in death by sisters, Patricia (Bill) Herdman; and infant sister, Shirley; brothers, Richard "Mike" (Hermenia/Katie) Silbaugh. Survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Bernice Rose; and children, Walter Jr. (Mary Lou) Silbaugh; Lorelei (Thomas) Aubrey; Sherri (David) Stevenson; Malany (Robert) Wilson; Harold (Michelle) Silbaugh; and Rory Silbaugh. 13 grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters, and one great grandson on the way. Also survived by sister, Jane (Stephen) Soyka; brothers, Enos (Linda) Silbaugh and Ronald (Ev) Silbaugh; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Walter served in the US Air Force where he spent most of his time as Chief Flight Mechanic on the F94C Fighter Interceptor Jet in the 46th Fighter Interceptor Squadron in Dover, Delaware. He worked for Bethlehem Mines at Revloc, as lead section foreman, until the mine closed. He loved working on the farm in the summer and in his workshop, "Walt's Woodbox" in the winter. Anyone that knew Walter knew what a hard worker he was; and when you came to his farm, you knew you were in Ford Country. Walter loved the annual "Silbaugh Corn Roast" held on his farm and celebrated by nearly 90 relatives and close friends every year since 1990. From now on, he will surely be missed. The family's gratitude goes out to Southern Care Hospice for taking very good care of him. There is not enough time or space to express our gratitude to our neighbors; the Bradys and the Crafts for all their love and support. May God richly bless them as they well deserve. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 2 p.m. until time of funeral service at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, Pastor Geno Bartoletti, officiating. Interment, Pike Brethren Cemetery, Mundys Corner. Military Rite by Nanty Glo, Twin Rocks, and Vintondale area veterans ritual team. Contributions in Walter's memory may be made to Jackson Township Fire Company, 176 Adams Ave., Mineral Point, PA 15942.
