MARTIN Jerry L., 71, Ebensburg, passed away May 11, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Sept. 30, 1942, at home in Nanty Glo, son of the late James and Sylvia (Grazier) Martin. Preceded in death by brother, Walter; and sister, Eleanor Rose. Survived by wife of 46 years, the former Terry Gore; children, Tammi (David) Connah and Jerry Scott (Michelle) Martin, all of Nanty Glo; Charisse L. Martin, Vinco; and grandchildren, Austin Daniel, Dalton Scott and Blaine Michael Connor; Cody James Connah; and Nathan Scott Martin. Also survived by brother, James (Judy) Martin, Emporium; Judy (Richard) Long, Marion Center; and sister-in-law, Mary (Benningfield) Martin, Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry retired as a case worker for the Cambria County Assistance Office, Pennsylvania Department of Welfare. Member of Nanty Glo Christian & Missionary Alliance Church. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam era stationed at Travis Air Force base in California and the recipient of the Air Force Longevity Service Award. Jerry loved his God, hymn singing, spending time with his family, his cottage, the surrounding lake, his ducks, fishing, planting and tending to his garden. Jerry also loved his Christmas lights. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Nanty Glo, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Pastor Bud Vogel, officiating. Interment, Edwards Memorial Cemetery, Belsano. Military graveside rites by Conemaugh Valley Detachment 287 Marine Corps League. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry s memory may be made to Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation.
