WALKER – Jeffrey Wayne, 49, Sergeant First Class US Army Human Resources Command, God called him home on June 17, 2011, surrounded by his family, at Allegheny General Hospital, due to a recent diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Born July 17, 1961 in Johnstown, son of Edwin T. and Betty (Wood) Walker. Preceded in death by infant brother, Randy; and father, Edwin. Survived by mother, Betty Walker, Nanty Glo; wife, Kim Walker, Ebensburg; son, Jeffrey O. Walker, Nanty Glo; sisters, Kathy (William) Cruley, Mundys Corner; twin sister, Robin (Tom) Hotham, Ohio; Melissa (Darrell) Morris, Wellsboro; and Patty (Mark) Sauka, Ebensburg; and special, loving and caring friend, Becky Basile, Summerhill. Also survived by nieces and nephews, Sarah and Ian Hotham, Craig Cruley, Chelsea and Emily Morris, and Adam and Lauren Sauka. A 1979 graduate of Blacklick Valley High School, he enlisted into the Army Reserves, then went full time to make a 30 year career serving his country. Last stationed at Army Reserve Medical Command, Pinellas Park, Florida, where he retired in May of 2009. During his military service he earned The Meritorius Service Medal (2nd Award); Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award); Army Achievement Medal (8th Award); Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award); Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (2nd Award); National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award); Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award); Army Service Ribbon; and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal (2nd Award). He loved his days in the military. He was a loving son, father and brother who loved being with his family especially his son, Jeffrey. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and wood working. We will miss his sense of humor that always made everyone laugh. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Nanty Glo. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Military Rite by Nanty Glo, Twin Rocks and Vintondale area veterans organizations.
