BRITTON - Harold R., Sr. "Chopper", 76, of Vinco, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 14, 2014 at home. Born Nov. 8, 1937 in Twin Rocks, son of the late Theodore and Mary (Shaffer) Britten. Preceded in death by brother, Theodore Jr.; and sister, Hermina Hammer. Survived by his wife of 56 years, Lieselotte "Lee" Britton; and children, Patricia (Barney) Chappell; Diana (companion, Keith)Baligush; and Harold R., Jr.(Theresa)Britton. Grandchildren, Leeann, Trisha, Katrina, Charlie and Isaac. Brother of Thelma (John) Butala; Wanida Hancharick; Porter (Mary) Britton; Robert (Caroline) Britten; and Art (Nancy) Britten. Also survived by sister in law, Patricia Britten; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Mundys Corner, where he served as Eucharistic Minister. Harold served during the Korean War and spent half of his career as a drill instructor in the US Army (E-6). Member of Nanty Glo American Legion and American-Polish Citizens Club. Former member of Nanty Glo VFW and Knights of Columbus. Harold enjoyed golfing, gambling and traveling. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him, especially his grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. John Vianney Church, the Very Rev. Andrew C. Stanko, VF, celebrant. Committal at Holy Name Mausoleum, Ebensburg. Military Rite by Nanty Glo, Twin Rocks and Vintondale Ritual Team.
