MESOROS- Joseph J. "Pap Pap", 88 of Vintondale, died peacefully December 1, 2005 at Laurel Crest Manor, surrounded by members of his family.
Born March 7, 1917 in Mc Kees Rocks, PA, son of the late George and Meri (Kafarago) Meszaros. Last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceded in death by son, Jim who undoubtedly welcomed him joyfully into heaven and son -in-law Paul Shandor, sisters Helen Lewis and Mary Curtis and brothers Steve, George and John and an infant brother.
Survived by loving wife of 64 years, Katherine (Biondo) Mesoros and children
Joseph and wife Shirley (Brubaker) of Harrisburg; Karen and husband Joe Anderson, Johnstown; Marie Mesoros, Johnstown; Betsy and husband Chris Helsel, Vintondale; and Jeanine Williamson, of Media, PA; Also 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A 1935 Graduate of Blacklick High School. WW II Army veteran having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. Joe proudly served for 13 years as commander of the H.B. Daly VFW Post of Vintondale. Retired coal miner with more than 40 years of service. Member and secretary of UMWA. Former Vintondale Tax Collector. After retirement, Joe and Katherine enjoyed traveling to numerous destinations including Mexico, Europe, Canada, Hawaii and Florida. An active and faithful member of Sts. Timothy & Mark Chapel, Vintondale, where he was a reader, server and Eucharistic minster. Active member of Blacklick Ambulance and Vintondale Homecoming Committee as well as various other clubs and organizations. Joe was a man of integrity and a high work ethic who was proud of and loved his family. He will be greatly missed. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Sunday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc.,Nanty Glo, where vigil prayer service will be held Sunday. Funeral Mass at 11 am Monday at Sts. Timothy & Mark Chapel, Vintondale, Rev. James H. Conrad, S.T.L., celebrant. Committal at St. Charles Cemetery, Twin Rocks. Military Rites by local veteran organizations. In lieu of flowers donations in Joe's memory may be made to the Sts. Timothy & Mark Chapel Improvements & Repairs Fund.
