MITCHELL - Alfred, 83, Ebensburg, died May 22, 2009, at Caroline Manor, Nanty Glo. Born April 7, 1926, in Bakerton, son of William and Margaret Jane (Troutman) Mitchell. Preceded in death by wife, Ruth (McCracken) Mitchell; brother, Earl; and sister, Garnet Myers. Survived by sons, Alan D. Mitchell, Ebensburg, and William S. Mitchell, Penn Run; grandchildren: Douglas, Lori, Michelle and Megan; great-grandchildren: Amber, Christopher, Alyssa and Madison; and sister, Opal Fertig, Willingsboro, N.J. Former member of Belsano United Methodist Church. Retired coal miner from Bethlehem Mines 32 and 33. A U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, where service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev. John Snyder, officiating. Interment to follow in the Oakland Cemetery. Military rites by local veterans organizations.
