ZAFFUTO – Stephen J., 90, Ebensburg, died June 21, 2009, at home. Born Dec. 16, 1918, in Dilltown, son of Salvatore and Marianna (Agnello) Zaffuto. Preceded in death by father, Salvatore; mother, Marianna Zaffuto-Giangirolami; stepfather, Nicola Giangirolami; sister, Carmella Persio; and brother, Gasper Zaffuto. Survived by wife, the former Philomenia "Fannie" DeGiorgis; these children: Mary Ann, wife of Donn Wagner, Boalsburg; Stephanie, wife of Robin Weaver, Cooper City, Fla.; Barry, married to the former Debra Monaco, Ebensburg; and Joseph, married to the former Darla Wagner, Centre Hall; seven grandchildren, Donny and Danielle Wagner, Beau and Shane Weaver, Jason and Stephen Zaffuto; and Tanner Zaffuto; and two great-grandchildren. Brother of Angeline Ponchione, Dilltown; sister-in-law, Betty Zaffuto-Lockard, Ebensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Thanks to special caretaker, Kim Walker, and special friend, Lena Zamboni. Retired from Beth Energy Mines 33, Ebensburg. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Normandy, northern France and the Rhineland. Life member of VFW Post 4963, Knights of Columbus Council 522 and American Legion Post 363, all of Ebensburg. Steve also played baseball in the Cambria County Industrial League. Friends received from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg, where vigil wake service will be held Tuesday evening. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, the Rev. Msgr. Arnold L. Gaus. Entombment, Holy Name Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Holy Name School Angel Fund or the church building fund in Steve's memory.
