GRIFFITH – June K. passed away July 1st just short of her 86th birthday. Born July 6th, 1923 in McKeesport PA, daughter of Sara E. Moore and Sam Kunkle. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Richard Griffith; and these children: Sara (Sally) McWhorter, wife of Glen McWhorter, Mesa AZ; Doug Griffith, married to the former Jacquie Winning, Ebensburg RD; Scott Griffith married to the former Diane Sherry, Ebensburg RD; loving grandchildren: Matt McWhorter, Adam Griffith, Eric Griffith, and Kate Griffith. In 1947, June moved to Ebensburg to work in the County extension office after graduating from IUP with her degree in Home Economics. Here she met and married Dick. In 1952 she and Dick moved to their farm on the Colver Road. During her varied, extensive careers, she held positions as County Extension Home Economist, Brownie leader, 4-H leader, Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Leader, Kappa Omicron Phi national magazine editor, Colver Elementary school teacher, Mount Aloysius instructor in fashion merchandising, taking her students on field trips to NYC fashion district annually, I-U 8 substitute school teacher, Real Estate agent, judge at several different counties fairs, and State Farm Show, and her last job as a volunteer for the Red Cross. As an active Ebensburg Presbyterian Church member, June served as a Deacon, and Elder, Presbyterian Women’s Association officer, and leader in the Women’s Club. Her extensive hobbies included sewing, knitting, cooking, and entertaining (Bridge clubs and Pennsylvania Farmers Association), traveling to the 4 corners of this continent with her beloved husband, Dick. The last 4 years of her life she lived with the residents of Rebekah Manor in Ebensburg, with Dick at her side every day. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. Sincerest thanks are extended to June’s Rebekah Manor family, her Ebensburg Presbyterian Church family, her Horizon Hospice family, the wonderful staff of Miners Hospital, and the fabulous staff at the Magley Family Practice office. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, Pastor Nadine Kinkead, officiating. Interment at Lloyd Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Cambria Township Volunteer Fire Company or the Ebensburg Area Ambulance Association.
