VIZZINI - Charles J., 85, of Rebekah Manor, Ebensburg, passed away peacefully August 11, 2009 at the manor. Born March 8, 1924 in Colver, son of the late John and Lillian (Pilleteri) Vizzini. Preceded in death by brothers Octoavious, James and Alphonso, and sisters Jane F. and Lillian Vizzini. Survived by wife, the former Glendora Waterhouse, to whom he was married for 60 years and these children: Charles Jr., married to the former Helen Parrish, Ebensburg; Garry, married to the former Nancy Plume, Suwanee, Georgia; James, married to the former Denise Neff, Mullica Hill, New Jersey, and Darlene Vizzini and her friend Kelly Anchors, of Kittanning. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, sister Mary Mitchell of Ebensburg, and brother John Vizzini of Baltimore, Maryland. A member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church and the Nocturnal Adoration Society. Mr. Vizzini was a longtime advocate for veterans and community projects, he was well known for his efforts in initiating the Cambria County Courthouse Nativity Display, was a life member and past commander of the Ebensburg Post 4963 VFW Post, member of the Cresson Post 238 American Legion, former member of the Johnstown Flood Museum Board, served on the former Ebensburg Betterment Committee and also served as a former business manager of the Ebensburg Center. A longtime member of the State Democratic Committee, he was a longtime supporter of Congressman John P. Murtha. A World War II Army veteran, the recipient of two purple hearts and one bronze star. A graduate of Cambria-Rowe Business College, where he majored in accounting. He retired as a supervisor from the State Auditor General's Office. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a vigil prayer service will be held Friday evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Holy Name Church, the Rev. Msgr. Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant. Committal at Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. Military graveside rites by local veterans organziations. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to the Hollidaysburg Veteran's Home "Members Fund", attn Judy, P.O.
