GERGELY - Donald S., 71 of Old Nanty Glo Road, Nanty Glo, passed away unexpectedly on August 13, 2009 at home. Born December 19, 1937 in Johnstown, son of the late Joseph and the Jeanette (Hankinson) Gergely. Preceded in death by brothers Robert, Joseph and infant twin Ronald, and granddaughter Haley Rose Gergely. Survived by wife, the former Deanna Stevens, to whom he was married 50 years, and these children: Donna Gergely, Gettysburg; Janette Workman, New Cumberland; Arlene Gergely, Nanty Glo; Steve (Helen) Gergely, Colver; Diane (Jim) Seaman, Liverpool; Deanna (Dan) Sherry, Nicktown; Doug Gergely, Landisburg; Nick (Teri) Gergely, Ebensburg; Gregg (Kelly) Gergely, Pottsville; and Matthew Gergely of Ebensburg; as well as 22 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Brother of John and Jerry Gergely, both of Ebensburg. Member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church and the Catholic Mens Conference. A US Navy Veteran of the Korean War. Retired welder for Bethelehem Mines with 24 years service and a member of U.M.W.A. Don loved his family and enjoyed spending time with all of them. Don was a devote Catholic and believed in the sanctity of life. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., Sunday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a vigil prayer service will be held Sunday evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday at Holy Name Church, the Rev. Msgr. Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant. Committal at Holy Name Cemetery.
