SCANLAN – Russell A., 82, Lakeview Road, Ebensburg, died Aug. 18, 2009, in Ebensburg. Born April 3, 1927, in Chicago, son of Dr. Herman and Emma (Steilan) Scanlan. Preceded in death by parents; infant son, Timothy Joseph; and brother, Bernard. Survived by wife, the former Elizabeth Byrne; sons, Gary, married to the former Nancy Templeton, and John, married to the former Theresa Stopka, both of Ebensburg; grandchildren, Kate Scanlan, Pittsburgh; Timothy, Sarah Bradley, John Paul and Andrew, all of Ebensburg; and great-grandchildren, Isaac, Henry and Max Bradley. Brother of Rita Troup and Edward F. Scanlan, both of Greensburg, and Dr. Raymond J., Richard H. and Betty Pryce, all of Ebensburg. Former owner and founder of Scanlan Electric, Ebensburg. Veteran of World War II, serving in the Sea Bee's with the 139th Construction Battalion on the Marshall Islands. Life member of Dauntless Fire Company with over 60 years and past fire chief of 14 years with Dauntless Fire Company, and served as assistant chief for 11 years and trustee for five years. Served on Ebensburg Area Ambulance Board for 36 years. Member of Johnstown Elks, life member of VFW Post 4963; American Legion Post 363; LOOM Lodge 681; and K of C Council 522, all of Ebensburg. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg, where vigil wake service will be held Wednesday. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church, the Rev. Msgr. Arnold L. Gaus. Entombment, Holy Name Mausoleum, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Dauntless Fire Company, Ebensburg Ambulance or Holy Name School Angel Fund in Russ' memory.
