BENKO – Robert Henry, D.D.S., 77, of North Julian Street, Ebensburg, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, September 7, 2009 at home after a short bout with leukemia. Born February 7, 1932 in Revloc, son of the late Albert and Susan (Reitler) Benko. Preceded in death by brother Floyd Albert. Survived by wife, the former Eleanor Reese, to whom he was married 52 years and sons: Tod Robert, Ebensburg, Kip Reese, married to Denise McGowan, Allison Park; Dane David, married to Victoria Lue, Butler; and grandchildren: Blake, Savannah, and Avery. Also survived by sister Jean Neilson of Portage. Graduated from the former Ebensburg-Cambria High School, University of Pittsburgh and Georgetown University School of Dentistry. Dr. Benko practiced dentistry in Ebensburg for 35 years. Bob was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Society and was a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. Member of Ebensburg First United Church of Christ (Congregational) He truly enjoyed his chosen field of dentistry and spending time at his cabin. Per Bob’s request, there will be no public viewing. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday at the Ebensburg First United Church of Christ, Mr. William Plummer, lay minister, officiating. Interment at Lloyd Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob’s name may be made to the Ebensburg-Cambria Free Public Library (http://www.cclib.lib.pa.us/Ebensburg) or to the charity of your choice.
