SIMMERS – William A., 76, of Zionsville, Indiana, passed away Sept. 17, 2009 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, following a brief illness. Born Sept. 10, 1933 in Nanty Glo, son of the late William and Mary Elizabeth (McDermott) Simmers. Preceded in death by infant brother, George Patrick; and brother in law, Randy Patzer. Survived by wife of 52 years, former Catherine Salutes, and sons, William David, Indianapolis; and Robert Wayne (Debra), Illinois; grandsons, Henry Matthew and Morgan Daniel; sisters, Mary Elizabeth (Francis) Hines, Nanty Glo and Madonna Patzer, Georgia; brothers Edward (Allyson) Virginia; and Charles (Mary Jo), Nanty Glo. Also survived by sister in law, Dolores Kotelnicki, Indiana, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graduate of Nanty Glo High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh. Member of The Knights of Columbus. Korean War Army veteran. Retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company with 39 years of service. William was an avid hunter, member of the NRA; and loved history, especially that of the Civil War. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Monday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes., Inc., Ebensburg where vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass at 11am Tuesday at Holy Name Catholic Church, the Rev. Msgr. Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant. Committal, Holy Name Cemetery. Military Rite by Menoher Post 155 VFW Ritual Team.
