LaMANTIA – Augusta M., 94, Nanty Glo, died Sept. 22, 2009, at Richland Woods. Born Jan. 4, 1915, in Nanty Glo, daughter of the late Philip and Mary (Mantia) LaMantia. Preceded in death by brother, Joseph J., and his wife, Mary (Dancha) LaMantia. She was a second mother to her nieces and nephews: Mary Ann LaMantia, Ashville, N.C.; Phyllis (Michael) Grembi, Ebensburg; Philip (Patricia) LaMantia, Harrison City; Debra Jo (John) Sideras, Novelty, Ohio; and Roxanne (Robert) McHugh, Ebensburg; and grandnieces and nephews: Michael, Jessica (Steve), Joseph, Paula (Matt), Bryan, Nicholas, Leo, Scott and Kate. Member of St. Mary's Church, Nanty Glo. Retired high school teacher from Blacklick Valley. Graduate of Seton Hill College and the University of Pittsburgh. Also a member of Catholic Daughters of America and PSEA Retired and Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. Gussie was a devoted volunteer at Blacklick Valley Kindergarten, Nanty Glo Library and St. Mary's Church. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and world travel, but most of all, she loved hearing of the successes of her former students. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, where liturgical wake will be held and where Legion of Mary will recite the Rosary Friday. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church, the Rev. Martin A. Cingle, celebrant. Interment, SS. Simon and Jude Cemetery, Blairsville.
