Obituary of James F. Gondek

James F. Gondek, 64, Hollidaysburg, died Wednesday morning at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born in Revloc, son of Joseph and Helen (Mahowski) Gondek. He married Esti Zerbe. Surviving are his wife; two sons: Christopher A. and companion, Angela, of Johnstown and Kevin M. and wife, Amy Jo, of Hollidaysburg; 10 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Barbara McLaughlin of Philadelphia; and a brother, Robert of Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald. James was a 1963 graduate of Bishop Carroll High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and Army National Guard. He was employed as a residential service aide at the Altoona and Ebensburg centers. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and growing trees. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg with military honors, the Rev. Jaime G. Olson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blair Unit of the American Cancer Society.
