ILLIG – Fred V., 76, Ebensburg, died Feb. 13, 2010, at Windber Hospice. Born Jan. 6, 1934, in Ebensburg, son of Vincent and Marie (Frank) Illig. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Agnes; brother, Clement; brothers-in-law, Regis Hite and Bill Ross; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emil and Helen Soupart. Death ends a marriage union of 55 years. Survived by wife, the former Coletta Drass; these children: Fred, and wife, Cheryl (Aliquo), Woodbridge, Va.; David, and wife, Carol (Penatzer), Ebensburg; Dawn, and husband, Eugene Smith, Johnstown; and Pattie, and husband, Vince DiRose, Windsor, N.Y.; and grandchildren, Todd Bender; Jonathan, Kaylee and Keith Illig; Tyler Knopsnyder; Gina Smith; and Dominick and Nicholas DiRose. Brother of Clete (Helen) Illig, Ebensburg; Jane (Fred) Shero, Carrolltown; Grace (Lawrence) Sedor, Revloc; Joanne (Thomas) Biller, Ebensburg; and Mary Hite, Chest Springs. Also sister-in-law, Bettie Ross, Coalport. Retired from Penelec in 1994 with 30 years of service. Member of Ebensburg Moose Lodge 681, Legion Bowling League and Saturday Lunch Bunch. Fred enjoyed working in his wood shop. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg, where vigil wake service will be held Tuesday evening. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, the Rev. Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus. Entombment, Holy Name Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Windber Hospice in Fred's memory.
