Obituary of David J. Buchanan

BUCHANAN – David J., 53, Odenton, Md., formerly of Nanty Glo, died Feb. 9, 2010, at University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, Md., of an acute illness. At his side were his loving wife of 30 years, Kathleen J. (Manculich) Buchanan; son, David P. Buchanan, Sterling, Va.; and daughter, Theresa A. Roozen (wife of Nicholas), Odenton, Md. His son, Daniel J. Buchanan with the Marine Corps in Miramar, Calif., made preparations to return home. Born Jan. 13, 1957, in Johnstown, to James and Joann Buchanan of Mineral Point. He graduated in 1974 from Blacklick Valley Jr./Sr. High School, Nanty Glo. He worked for Union Local No. 1 of the D.C. area as a stonemason for 20 years before becoming disabled. Whether on or off the job, he spent his time doing what he loved most, using his hands to work with wood and stone. Preceded in death by sister, Christine Buchanan. Also survived by brother, James P. Buchanan (and his wife, Natalie), Bedford; sisters, MaryJo Buchanan, Boca Raton, Fla.; and Cheryl Swartzenstruver (and her husband, James), Columbia, Pa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at Donaldson Funeral Home, 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, Md. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Donaldson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment, Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, Annapolis, Md. Flowers will be accepted.
