LONG – Herbert B. “Herbie,” 82, passed away peacefully at home May 16, 2010, with his devoted wife of 37 years by his bedside. Born Nov. 8, 1927, in New Germany, to Benedict and Marie (McDunn) Long. He was a U.S. Army veteran, talented professional photographer (ret.) from Cover Studios and L.R. Kimball, master gardener, longtime member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Ebensburg and friend of many. Preceded in death by first wife, Iona; an infant son; and second wife, Elizabeth. Survived by wife, Shirley; brothers, Thomas Long (Angelina), Havre de Grace, Md.; and Honorable Gerard Long (Joan), Ebensburg; and sister, Marian Bowser (Peter), Kokomo, Ind. Also survived by daughters, Cindy Smith (David), Topsfield, Mass.; Judie McGrorey (George Yawger), Hopewell, N.J.; Sue Stock (Kevin), Ebensburg; Kim McGough, Johnstown; Linda Whitley (Gary), Nashville, Tenn.; and Iva Sue Rutowski (Ed), Dalton, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg, where wake service will be held Tuesday. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, the Rev. Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus. Committal, Immaculate Conception Cemetery, New Germany.
