VASSANELLI - Max, 92, Portage, formerly of Colver, died April 29, 2005, in Hastings. Born Dec. 10, 1912, in Ernest, son of Ferdinand and Assunta Vassanelli. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Anna Shevock; brother, Geno Vassanelli; and sisters, Mary Bugie and Ida Tirabassi. Survived by these children: Dennis Vassanelli, Denver, Colo.; Maxine, wife of Lee Ellmaker, Jefferson City, Mo.; and Mark Vassanelli, married to the former Sandra Notich, Portage; and four grandchildren: Gretchen, Dennis Jr., Robbie and Megan. Brother of Irene Smylnycky, Colver. Retired from Easter Coal and Gas Co., Colver. Member of UMWA Local 860, Colver. Max enjoyed going to the horse races and trout fishing. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg, where vigil wake service will be held that evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Colver, the Rev. Bernard Grega, and assisted by Deacon Thomas Bugie, Max's nephew. Committal, Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg.
