ILLIG – Peter Jr., 87, Ebensburg, died Nov. 19, 2010, at home. Born Oct. 4, 1923, in Ebensburg, son of Peter S. Sr. and Mildred (Rudolph) Illig. Preceded in death by parents, an infant brother and three infant sisters. Survived by wife, the former Louise (Kirkpatrick); and daughters, Margaret Grembi and Mildred (Michael) Mandichak, both of Ebensburg; and Donna (Keith) Penatzer, Portage; grandchildren, April, Jessica and Dominick Grembi; Amy (Mandichak) Weston; Brad and Marc Mandichak; and Brian, Michael, Richard and Matthew Penatzer; four great-grandchildren. Brother of Theresa Lapczynski, Tafton, Pa.; Geraldine Gonzalez, Ebensburg; and Bernice Skovran, Oldsmar, Fla. Retired from Cambria County Veterans Affairs Office as director with 37 years of service. Veteran of World War II, having served in the Army and Navy. Life member of VFW Post 4963, a member of American Legion Post 363 and life member of Dauntless Fire Company, all of Ebensburg. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg, where vigil wake service will be held Sunday. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, the Rev. Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus. Committal, Holy Name Mausoleum, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Holy Name School Angel Fund or Home Nursing Agency, Hospice, Altoona, in Pete’s memory. Firemen’s service will be held at 6:45 p.m. and veterans at 7 p.m. at the funeral home Sunday.
