HUBER – Guy E., 86, Ebensburg, died Nov. 22, 2010, at home. Born Feb. 20, 1924, in Ebensburg, son of Edwin and Gertrude (Warner) Huber. Preceded in death by parents and siblings, John “Don” Huber and Anita (Huber) Albano. Survived by loving wife of 61 years, Ruth (Miller) Huber; and devoted children, Murray, married to the former Grace Mathias, Mechanicsburg; Jim, married to the former Andrea Dillaway, Wyomissing, Pa.; Mary Joyce, Middletown; Barbara, married to Harry D’Arcy, Mechanicsburg; Mark, married to the former Colleen Hoover, Lewisburg; and Bill, married to the former Lesley Hoak, Mechanicsburg. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Katie and Steve Huber; Deana and Danielle Teeter; Patrick, Joe, Mike and Tom D’Arcy; Ryan, Renee, Neil and Graham Huber; Abby, Jessie and Ali Huber; and Joe and Sarah. Also survived by siblings and their spouses, Shirley and Karl Lavallee, Holden, Mass.; Gretchen and Robert Allison, Penn Valley, Calif.; Jane and Massey Gibson, Lansdowne, Pa.; Gene and Naomi Huber, Brooklyn, Ohio; Dick Huber, Altoona; and Carl and Toni Huber, Ebensburg. Also survived by sister-in-law, Ina Claire Huber, Ebensburg. Guy graduated from Holy Name School and Ebensburg-Cambria High School, Class of 1942, where he played football, basketball and track. He attended Louisiana State University Junior College and Mellon School of Banking, and completed 12 years of education with American Institute of Banking, and seven years of study with American Banking Association at Penn State and Bucknell universities. A World War II veteran, Guy was a member of the 66th Infantry Regiment, 71st Division, Third Army, under General Patton, and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during a combat explosion in Austria four days before the war ended. A trusted businessman who became a true friend to many of his customers, Guy built a successful career in banking that spanned 38 years in Ebensburg, from teller at the former American National Bank to vice president of Community Banking, Northern Region, U. S. Bank at the time of his retirement in 1985. Guy was a lifelong resident of Ebensburg. His service to his hometown community was tireless and extensive, holding key positions in more than 15 organizations, including 31-year treasurer of Dauntless Fire Company; 23-year treasurer of Ebensburg Youth Baseball League; Cambria County Fair, Ebensburg Lions Club; 22-year member of Knights of Columbus and served as trustee; 20-year chairman of American Red Cross; and 20-year treasurer of Ebensburg Ambulance Association. Guy also served his community for 12 years on Ebensburg Borough Council, as well as multi-year terms on Cambria County Extension Board, Ebensburg Zoning Commission and the local draft board. A 50-year member of American Legion Post 363, Guy held all chairmanships at the local post and was 20th District Commander. Charter and life member of the VFW. Lifelong member of Holy Name Church, Guy was an usher, collection counter, festival volunteer, member of the parish finance committee and seldom missed daily Mass with his wife, Ruth. Guy loved being outdoors, playing cards with friends and spending time in the woods at his cottage on Loretto Road. Member of Camp Nick, near Carrolltown, for 49 years, and of Tin Camp, in Potter County, for many years. Always humble with a great sense of humor, Guy was a good man with a big heart for his family, friends, church, community and country. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, at Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, 307 N. Center St., Ebensburg, with memorial services by Dauntless Fire Company at 6:45 p.m., VFW at 7 p.m. and Knights of Columbus at 7:15 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, the Rev. Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant. Committal, St. Benedict’s Catholic Church Cemetery, Carrolltown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Angel Fund, c/o Holy Name Catholic Church, 500 N. Julian St., Ebensburg, Pa. 15931.
